The Project
Roel started a thread on the ONS-forum regarding his idea for this project on June 29th 2006 with the following post:

Inspired by the ONS-totem and feeling a little bit sorry I was too late to take part in that experience I thought I had to find a good idea for a new ONS experiment. Seeing how reviewing of products is since almost the beginning a part of the ONS I thought it would be great if somehow the listeners of the ONS could take part in that. So my suggestion is sending a box with all kinds of things to review to ONS-listeners who want to participate. Before I start building some kind of box (it needs to be resistant enough to withstand shipping hopefully many times) I want to see if there are listeners willing to join me in this experiment. My idea was that I would send a box with a few items to a participating ONS listener who then would review one ore more of the items in the box and then add one or more items to the box for the next ONS-listener, I think it would be great to have a box traveling all across the world with more and more items to review during the progression of its journey. The reviews, in writing or recorded, can be put here on the forum, or maybe on a special website which also would track the box, and if Frank wants to he can maybe put one in the ONS so now and then. Of course we would have to have some limitations on the products you can put in the box (non-perishable etc) but we can figure the general rules out together I guess. Eagerly waiting for your reactions Roel
On Tuesday July 25th 2006 Roel started a thread to get a name for the project. On august 17th Roel decided to close the poll for the new name and the new name will be The Overnightcase Project.

Rules (Still open to discussion)
Roel will make a box which will be able to contain products for the ONS-listeners to review. He will put in several lightweight containers (boxes and bottles) for the products.

Roel will start of the project by sending "the box" with a couple of items (probably 3) to review to the first person in line who wants to participate. The package can be mailed as cheap as possible. The quantity of the products shipped should be enough for 2 or 3 people per item to review it (so not full bottles etc to keep the weight as low as possible). The next person in line who receives the box chooses 2 or 3 items to review and records the reviews. Then this person adds 2 or 3 items to the box for the next persons in line to review.

During the travel of the box we will mark its progress and note which items have been reviewed so that in case the box gets to heavy someone can take-out items of the box which have been reviewed.

The project ends when the last participant mails the box to either Roel or Frank (if he to be the end-receiver).

Restrictions to the items that can be put in the box

Nonperishable items

You can participate in the project until the project is officially over.

If there are more people who want to participate in the project we can add them randomly to remaining part of this list keeping in mind that we don't want the Overnightcase to go from England to England, or NJ to NJ.

Discusion Points
In which order should the box mailed?

(Lee) I vote for completely random. More fun that way?

(manny) I think we should keep it random, but make sure that NJ isn't getting a box from NJ or England from England.

Should we limit the maximum weight of the box to for example 3 kilo's (approx 6.6 pounds)?

(Lee) Absolutely. The lighter the better.

(Dave) As a guide my box to Frank cost me £29(sterling) for 2.5kg from england to NJ, so if money is an issue for anyone put light stuff in when it's your turn to post.

Should we release the reviews during the experiment or save them all up for a grand finale?

(Lee) I'd say they should all be compiled and then when the package finally reaches Frank, he can use the audio as he likes - either as a segment or if there is a lot, over a couple of shows - or however he wishes.

(Lauren) I think they should be ongoing - especially if the package keeps going and going to different places.
